Americans would rather see the congresswoman Trump attacked in the White House than him

A new poll quantifies how big a loser Donald Trump continues to be and that he becomes a bigger loser the longer he’s in office. Americans like her better

The poll, from Public Policy Polling (PPP), shows that Trump is so blisteringly unpopular, he would lose in a hypothetical election matchup with multiple Democratic figures. As PPP notes, “While the support level for the possible Democrats fluctuates likely based on name recognition Trump polls consistently in the 38-40% range no matter who he’s pitted against.”

That includes Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson, who was not exactly a nationally known figure until recently, when Trump started attacking her and it backfired.

In a hypothetical matchup between Trump and the Florida congresswoman, she leads him 42-39. Wilson has become best known for exposing Trump’s abusive phone call to the family of Army Sgt. La David Johnson. Johnson was one of four soldiers who were killed when Trump sent them in without enough support on a doomed mission in Niger.

Trump has just released a new campaign ad, apparently trying to distract from the indictments of his top campaign officials, that features Wilson. Aside from the stupidity of attacking the family friend of a fallen soldier, Trump’s ad helps to raise Wilson’s visibility, so maybe in the next poll she’ll be ahead of him by even more.

Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling, summed up the problem Trump faces.

“Basically everything we poll on a monthly basis is at a record low point for Trump right now,” Debnam said. “His approval rating, the number of voters who want to impeach him, his position against Democrats for 2020, and his hold over the Republican Party have never been weaker than we found in this month’s national survey.”

Even worse for Trump, the poll was taken before his campaign manager and other campaign officials were indicted in federal court for “conspiracy against the United States.” So his ratings are unlikely to improve in the next survey.

The poll showed 49 percent of respondents favoring his impeachment, compared to 41 percent who would oppose it. His approval dropped 7 percent since PPP’s last poll, to 38 percent. That’s actually good news for Trump compared to Gallup, where he has collapsed to only 33 percent approval.

In addition to Wilson, Trump loses in every electoral matchup PPP polled, including against Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Kamala Harris.

Respondents found Trump to be scarier than ghosts, vampires, mummies, witches, zombies and werewolves. Though “the Devil” still had a lead against Trump, polling at 51 percent to 36 percent.

But there’s still time.
