As Americans remember 9/11, Trump shamelessly promotes himself
On the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, it is customary for the current president of the United States to express sympathy to the victims of the tragedy and gratitude to those who risked their own lives to save others. For Donald Trump, however, the occasion is yet another opportunity to promote the one thing he cares most about: himself.
On this somber anniversary, Trump used his Twitter account to tell Americans to “#NeverForget” a quote from Trump about 9/11, complete with the account names for his other social media accounts.
As if quoting himself were not crass enough, Trump tweeted a video exclusively featuring Trump: Trump at the White House, Trump laying a wreath at the Pentagon memorial wall, Trump giving a speech, Trump looking at an American flag.

Absent from Trump’s campaign-style video is any recognition of those who died on 9/11, or their grieving loved ones, or the men and women in uniform who rushed toward the danger that day to save the lives of others.
This is not the first time Trump has used the tragedy of 9/11 to promote himself. On that very day in 2001, Trump gave an interview in which he bragged that with the fall of the World Trade Center, his building at 40 Wall Street was now the tallest in New York City.
It was a tasteless but revealing observation 16 years ago. Now that Trump is president, however, his exploitation of this tragedy to promote himself and his social media accounts is an utter disgrace to the office he holds and to those who deserve to be remembered on this day.
