News that members of Congress were briefed on Donald Trump’s likely mental “unraveling” nearly a month ago has people wondering which senator was the lone member of Trump’s party to attend, but that person isn’t speaking up.

The news comes as Trump’s latest and scariest threat against North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has renewed questions about Trump’s mental fitness for office. Dr. Bandy X. Lee, who conducted the December briefing, revealed that only one Republican — a senator — attended.

Weekly Standard congressional reporter Haley Byrd set out to determine the identity of that lone Republican, starting with the most likely suspects — two senators who have publicly expressed some concern about Trump’s erratic and irresponsible words and actions. It hasn’t gone well so far:

It is worth noting that each senator to deny attending the briefing has done so through a spokesperson, and not directly.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) ostentatiously announced his intention not to run for re-election with a speech on the Senate floor decrying complicity with Trump, while retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) was the first elected Republican to openly question Trump’s fitness.

But their actions have not matched their lip service, as both Flake (90 percent) and Corker (85 percent) have voted in near-lockstep with Trump’s agenda.

They talk a good game, but when it counts, even Republicans with no more elections to win back down to Trump.

The real question, though, is where were the other hundreds of congressional Republicans who have watched Trump’s “unraveling,” yet chose not to even attend a briefing on his mental fitness? More importantly, now that Trump’s unraveling has escalated, where are they now?
