Joe Biden and Lady Gaga team up for abuse victims

In October, Joe Biden and Lady Gaga released a public service announcement promoting the “It’s On Us” campaign to combat sexual assault. But that, as it turns out, was just the beginning for them. The two are planning to open trauma centers for abuse victims:

“Women who are abused end up having long-term physical and physiological problems,” the former vice president said in response to an audience question about rape on college campuses at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Summit in New York City on Monday. “I’m working with Lady Gaga now… we [want to] set up trauma centers where women can go to get the long-term help they need to deal with these crises… We finally are recognizing the long-term impacts on the health of women and men who’ve been abused. It’s the next great frontier I want to be part of.”

Massachusetts is on the verge of giving its residents free birth control

Excellent news for the women of Massachusetts. Last week, the House passed a bill to guarantee free contraception and protect women from any federal restrictions on access to it. On Tuesday, the bill unanimously sailed through the Senate:

“I hope this can serve as a model to the country,” Chandler said. “After all, 50 percent of this nation is female. We can’t just go ignoring their needs.”

Senate President Stan Rosenberg said that while the Trump administration is “attacking women’s health care,” Massachusetts is “standing up for our mothers, daughters, friends and neighbors by ensuring access to no-pay contraception.”

Congressional Progressive Caucus: We have to #KillTheBill

In case you’re still wondering why the Republican scheme to raise taxes on the middle class to give handouts to the rich and corporations, the Congressional Progressive Caucus has a a simple and straightforward explanation for you:

ACTION ALERT: You can help #KillTheBill

American for Tax Fairness, a coalition of 425 organizations, has the tools you need so that you can help stop the Republican tax scheme. Find an town hall or other event near you so you can let your members of Congress know why the GOP plan to hike taxes on the middle class must fail.

Democratic women lead the charge to fight sexual harassment in Congress

Rep. Jackie Speier of California and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York are both fierce congressional warriors when it comes to combatting violence against women, in all its forms. That’s why, on Wednesday, the two introduced a new bill: the Member and Employee Training and Oversight On (ME TOO) Congress Act. The bill would require training for members of Congress and staff to prevent and address sexual harassment.

Cards Against Humanity is trying to save America from Trump

The makers of the raunchy and definitely not-safe-for-work card game are trying to do more than make people laugh at parties. The group has purchased a piece of land on the southern border for the explicit purpose of making it impossible for Donald Trump to build his pointless and costly wall there.

“Donald Trump is a preposterous golem who is afraid of Mexicans. He is so afraid that he wants to build a twenty-billion dollar wall that everyone knows will accomplish nothing,” a statement said on the website Cards Against Humanity Saves America.

Who knows whether the plan will work, but it seems like a worthwhile effort and a creative — and hilarious — way to resist Trump and his toxic agenda.
