"I was a stranger and you did not take me in." A priest and a 4-star general rebuke Trump

Much of Donald Trump’s week was consumed with trying to pass his disastrous tax scam and escalating his offensive against Robert Mueller’s investigation, but he also managed to make time for racism.

While delivering remarks at the FBI National Academy Graduation Ceremony in Quantico, Trump took a break from praising the agency — which he had just finished attacking — to take aim at one of his favorite targets: immigrants.

Trump went off on a tangent about the immigration diversity lottery program, and told the assembled graduates that “They give us their worst people, they put them in a bin, but in his hand, when he’s picking them is, really, the worst of the worst.”

Perhaps as sickening was the reaction of some of the assembled graduates, who laughed at Trump’s attack:

The remarks drew a sharp rebuke from Father James Martin, who quoted the Book of Matthew to demonstrate Trump’s unfaithfulness to Christian values.

And former CIA Director and retired four-star General Michael Hayden signaled his agreement with Father Martin with an emphatic “Amen.”

When Jonah Bennett, reporter for the conservative Daily Caller, tried to snarkily interject, Hayden reiterated the point:

The passage cited goes on to quote Jesus as saying, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”

Trump blatant ignorance of the religion to which he purports to adhere is infamous.

And his cruel immigration rhetoric and policies are yet another example of the way that Republicans have abandoned any pretense of adhering to the Christian values to which they lay claim. And even his die-hard white Evangelical supporters are beginning to notice.
