Impeachment ad triggers Trump meltdown as polls increasingly show Americans want him out

Steyer purchased time for the ad on Trump’s favorite show, “Fox & Friends,” smack dab in the middle of programming on the right-wing propaganda network, Fox News. The gambit worked, and caught Trump’s attention as he spends his valuable time watching a television network dedicated to making him happy.

In response to the ad, Trump wrote, “Wacky & totally unhinged Tom Steyer, who has been fighting me and my Make America Great Again agenda from beginning, never wins elections!”

The ad is part of the “Need to Impeach” campaign, which cites three reasons to “stop Trump now”: Trump and his team’s continued lies about his interactions with Russia; Trump’s discussions about possibly pardoning himself, aides, and family; and the threat posed to national security by “refusing to stand up to Russia and engaging in brinkmanship with North Korea.”

Far from being a “wacky” idea, polling shows that it is an idea with strong support. Public Policy Polling recently asked voters to weigh in, and in October of 2017 they found that 48 percent support impeaching Trump, while 43 percent oppose. The group notes that is the “fifth month in a row we find voters in support of impeachment.”

In PPP’s poll, as in every other major poll since he assumed the presidency, the verdict is clear: Trump is seriously unpopular. Only 42 percent approve of the job he has done, with 53 percent disapproving.

Even more troubling for Trump, the poll showing impeachment support was taken before the public became aware that he sent four American soldiers to their deaths in Niger, refused to acknowledge their sacrifice, then attacked the family of one of the fallen.

Americans wanted him gone before they knew his failure as commander in chief could be added to his jam-packed record of corruption and negligence. Trump is so reviled, even his safe space at Fox News is no longer immune to bad news on his failing presidency.
