In bizarre jealous rage, Trump demands more TV time

No matter what is happening in the world — hurricanes, threats of nuclear war, a scandal-plagued cabinet — Donald Trump maintains a laser focus on his top priority: how Donald Trump is portrayed on television. Donald Trump

With apparently nothing else to do, Trump took to the Twitter machine to whine about “unfunny” late night hosts, complaining that no matter how terrible of a job he does, all people want to do is talk about the terrible job he is doing.

And he mused about the need for (strangely capitalized) “Equal Time” for himself and other Republicans — as though coverage of them is somehow lacking.

It is not that late night hosts have an anti-Trump bias; it is that Trump has done an historically abysmal job.

A sampling of Trump’s “accomplishments” over his less than nine months in office:

Filled a cabinet with billionaire grifters; attacked Muslims; insulted black athletes; pardoned a violent racist sheriff; hired and fired dozens of incompetent liars; surrounded himself with white supremacists; called those marching with Nazis “very fine people” and equivalent to their opponents; rolled back women’s rights; failed to sign any significant legislation; and botched relief efforts for millions of American citizens.

That’s a lot of material. And host Jimmy Kimmel in particular has done a lot with it.

Several weeks ago, Kimmel gave an impassioned plea against the last GOP failed Obamacare repeal effort, garnering significant attention with his accurate description of how terrible the bill was. That bill failed to move in the Senate, a significant embarrassment for Trump.

More recently, Kimmel discussed the Las Vegas terrorist shooting, pleading with lawmakers to pass sensible gun control legislation.

Saturday Night Live took Trump to task for his botched response to Puerto Rico, and his racist, sexist attacks against Carmen Yulin Cruz, the mayor of San Juan.

As a bully, Trump seems perplexed that comedians would take the side of the suffering over his childish, narcissistic outbursts.

But Trump did give a clue as to why he is upset at this moment. It appears to be the story, which NBC News broke, that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a “moron” in front of a large group of senior officials.

But it wasn’t just that Tillerson called Trump a moron which set Trump off — it was the wall-to-wall media coverage of the story.

According to Axios, “After what Trump considered a strong trip to Vegas, he seethed when he got back and saw Tillerson’s gaffe dominating cable-news coverage. Everywhere he flipped, there was Tillerson’s face instead of his.

Trump wasn’t angry about 59 people getting gunned down. Trump wasn’t seething about more than 500 people injured by a terrorist.

What really got Trump angry was that someone else was on TV, and that that person may have called him a name.

How pathetic.

America deserves and needs a president who cares more about the victims of disasters and massacres than he does about seeing his own face on television as much as possible.
