"Incredible": Trump brags about Puerto Rico response as he jets off to resort

Acknowledging the “loss of life” on the ground, Trump nonetheless bragged that “it’s been incredible the results that we’ve had with respect to loss of life.”

Trump and his team, including Homeland Security boss Elaine Duke, have been blasted with criticism for the slow and anemic response to the brutal aftermath. San Juan mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz rebuked Duke, who is the acting Secretary for the department, for describing the response as a “really good news story.”

Cruz explained, “Dammit, this is not a good news story. This is a people are dying story.”

Trump has repeatedly blamed Puerto Rico’s geography for his failure to lead, most recently noting that it is “an island surrounded by water,” noting it is, “Big water. Ocean water.”

And now he offered this latest gem:

Trump made the tin-eared remark while leaving the White House for another weekend — at taxpayer expense — spent at his resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.

As Puerto Rico suffers through the crisis, where drinking water has now become a premium item, Trump may attend the President’s Cup golf tournament. The Commissioner for the PGA Tour said Trump’s entourage had been to the site of the event to get a “good, hard look at the property” in advance of a possible visit.

Trump admitted that he had “plenty of time on my hands” to do things like feud with the NFL and attend golf tournaments.

But not enough time on the schedule to get things done right for the American citizens in Puerto Rico, apparently.
