The American Independent has an immediate opening for a Digital Fellow to join TAI’s digital team. This role will assist with distributing content on our state social media platforms and will report to our Digital Manager. Our ideal applicant is innovative, efficient, and able to work independently in a collaborative, rapid-response environment. You see obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. You are obsessed with news and social media, and intimately familiar with progressive politics, organizations, and ideals.
This Digital Fellowship is a unique opportunity for emerging digital professionals to gain first hand experience in political and news media. This twelve-month fellowship offers social media experience, relationship building opportunities with other progressive organizations, access to a team of experienced digital professionals, and access to TAI’s office in Washington, D.C.
This fellowship takes place during the 2024 election cycle. Fellows will be responsible for managing state specific social media accounts, including posting, scheduling, and graphic + vertical video creation.
The Fellowship term will begin asap and will end in Nov 2024.
We are looking for emerging digital professionals who are obsessed with social media, innovative, collaborative, and have a passion for politics and the news.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the digital department in implementing distribution and content strategies for state news accounts
- Draft, schedule, and publish social media content consistently across state social media accounts, following the daily breaking news cycle
- Regularly seek creative opportunities for engagement across platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok)
- Create vertical video content
- Monitor social media for breaking news and trending topics
- Cover live events including, but not limited to, congressional hearings, press conferences, and breaking news
- Build community online
- Execute other projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of relevant work experience managing social media accounts; can include training programs
- Excellent writing skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities at once in a rapid-response newsroom
- Politically savvy, aware, and engaged, with an insatiable appetite for news
- Organized and passionate about systems, spreadsheets, and clear communication
- Clear, concise and engaging writing style
- Professional experience using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email CRMs, and WordPress
- TikTok and Reels savvy; comfortable being on camera and producing video content
- Experience with any of the following: Sprout Social, Buffer, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Active Campaigns, Google Analytics, and Canva
- Strong project-management and time-management skills
- The creative vision and resourcefulness to make innovative ideas a reality
PAY: This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $60,000. Generous benefits package including 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K, and paid time off. TAI is a permanently remote team.
