Russia tries to help Trump by repeating his attacks on Mueller probe
Russia is one of Trump’s most reliable defenders.

Trump can always count on the Russia to have his back.
On Tuesday, Russian officials did their best to repeat White House talking points about how special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe is a waste of time and money.
“The Kremlin said on Tuesday that U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and other related crimes would end one day, describing it as pointless,” Reuters reports.
“In Russian, it’s called passing water through a sieve,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, using an expression that means flogging a dead horse. “That’s exactly what the process looks like.”
Once again, the White House and the Kremlin appear to be on the exact same page with regard to a domestic, American political scandal — both insist the investigation is pointless.
But that completely ignores the many indictments his team has handed down, as well as several guilty pleas.
Even Fox News’ Shepard Smith this year forcefully concluded that Trump’s “hoax” narrative doesn’t fit.
“The Russians infiltrated our system, manipulated us on behalf of [President] Vladimir Putin — and they did it online and in person on our soil. If there was ever any question, even a single question, there is no more … Russia attacked the United States of America,” he noted after Mueller indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian groups for their role in an extensive effort to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
The fact that Russia is a known foreign adversary and directly attacked U.S. elections in 2016 ought to make Russia’s open and eager support of Trump politically awkward for Trump.
But Trump’s entire presidency has been defined by his relentless attempt to appease Putin and to do as little as possible to punish Russia for its obvious attack on America’s electoral process in 2016.
Russian officials have reportedly accumulated all kinds of damaging information about Trump over the years, about both his professional and private life, which could explain Trump’s obsession with coddling Putin.
Today, there’s virtually no daylight between how the Kremlin sees the Mueller probe and how Trump and his crusading GOP loyalists in the House see the investigation. All of them appear to be aligned in an effort to delegitimize U.S. law enforcement as a way to cover up Trump’s campaign misdeeds.
Earlier this month while marking the one-year anniversary of the Russia probe, Trump whined on Twitter, “Congratulations America, we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History … and there is still No Collusion and No Obstruction. The only Collusion was that done by Democrats who were unable to win an Election despite the spending of far more money!”
On this issue, the Kremlin and the White House have become interchangeable.
