Donald Trump
  • Donald Trump kicked off his morning in the usual way: with incoherent early morning tweets. And, in the usual way, he was flat out lying. This time, his lie was about taxes.

Highest taxed country in the world? Wow, that sounds bad! Except it’s not true, as PolitiFact has noted repeatedly.

When we looked at this claim in the past, we compared the United States to the 33 other industrialized nations in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Data from 2014, the most recent year available, shows that the United States wasn’t the most highly taxed by the typical metrics and actually places near the bottom or around the middle of the pack.

It’s not even close to true, in fact.

By all metrics we looked at, the United States is far from the most taxed nation overall and for businesses.

    We rate Trump’s claim False.

  • When Hillary Clinton rightly called the racists who supported Donald Trump “deplorable,” the far-right feigned great outrage over the insult. But now Steve Bannon’s pro-Trump, anti-immigrant site Breitbart is gleefully embracing the term in celebration of Trump’s decision to end the DACA program that protects immigrants brought to the United States as children. Relishing this kind of cruelty truly is deplorable:
  • The disgraced David A. Clarke, Trump’s second favorite sheriff — after Joe Arpaio, of course — has a new gig. But it’s not with the Trump administration:

Sheriff David A. Clarke just lost out on yet another Trump administration job—and he has the president’s chief of staff to thank.

Officials in the West Wing tell The Daily Beast that Clarke had been in consideration for a White House post over the past seven weeks. But on Tuesday, the controversial former Milwaukee County lawman signed on with an outside group instead. He will serve as a spokesman and “senior adviser” for the pro-Trump super PAC America First Action. […]

Clarke was a lightning rod of controversy during his tenure atop the Milwaukee sheriff’s department, where he oversaw abhorrent conditions in the county’s jail that have led to lawsuits against the former sheriff.

  • Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer got a new job on the lecture circuit:

“Audiences around the world will benefit from the same candor, wit and insight that Spicer brought to the White House briefing room,” Worldwide Speakers Group writes about Spicer in its pitch to potential customers.

His candor? Really? No, not really, as it turns out. According to New York Times reporter Ken Vogel, the organization quickly changed its Spicer pitch and is “no longer advertising his ‘candor.’ Instead, it refers to his ‘trademark style behind the WH podium.'” Who would pass up the opportunity for that?

  • Vladimir Putin doesn’t want to put a ring on it:

Speaking at a news conference, Mr Putin refrained from making any criticism of current President Donald Trump. He dismissed a question about whether Mr Trump was “naive.”

Instead he said Mr Trump was “not my bride, and I’m not his groom.”

  • Check out Shareblue Media’s executive editor, Jess McIntosh, on CNN International, talking about Donald Trump’s ugly decision to rescind protection for immigrant children.
  • Now that Trump has officially declared an end to DACA, it’s up to Congress to act immediately to protect these young men and women. The Center for American Progress has an awesome toolkit to make it easy for you to contact key members of Congress and tell them to act NOW by passing the DREAM Act.
