She’s under his skin: Insecure Trump launches fourth attack at San Juan mayor in one day
For the love of God, someone please take Donald Trump’s phone away from him. No matter how much criticism he gets, nor how weak and small it makes him look to the nation and the world, Trump just cannot help himself: If anyone, especially a woman, responds to him with anything other than sycophantic praise, […]

No matter how much criticism he gets, nor how weak and small it makes him look to the nation and the world, Trump just cannot help himself: If anyone, especially a woman, responds to him with anything other than sycophantic praise, he has to lash out, over and over again.
After a week of embarrassing gaffes, ignorant statements, and damning press coverage of his administration’s response — or lack thereof — to the devastation wreaked across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands by Hurricane Maria, Trump got out of bed and onto Twitter early Saturday morning to attack the mayor of San Juan.
Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz went on television Friday to beg for help and aid from the White House, fervently declaring, “We are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency.”
Rather than being shamed into remorse and meaningful action — because Trump is incapable of shame or remorse or anything that could be called “meaningful” — he lashed out at Cruz with three heartless and childish tweets.
Soon after, the White House Director of Social Media took to Twitter himself, to spread a couple of old tweets from Cruz in which she was critical of Trump during the presidential campaign, in a transparent and gross attempt to discredit her.
And despite one tweet that pretty obviously was not written by Trump himself, in which he calls for people to be “united in offering assistance” to those suffering, 40 minutes later, Trump was back to being Trump:
Those “complaints” from the mayor were about the fact that people in Puerto Rico have no electricity, no fuel, and little food and water. Their hospitals are on the verge of collapse and patients cannot get medication or treatment they need to live. At least 16 people have already died, and as Cruz noted, more deaths will surely come without faster, stronger responses from the White House.
Cruz is not “complaining.” She is begging for the aid and assistance that Puerto Rico needs from the government. As a territory of the United States, those on the island are American citizens, and they are Trump’s constituents, and they deserve every ounce of effort the federal government can put forth.
But Trump would rather go golfing and rant on Twitter about his hurt feelings than step up and do the job he claimed to want.
His feckless response to the disaster included railing about “fake news” and telling the people of Puerto Rico not to believe it — something fellow reality TV star Kim Kardashian West realized immediately was utter garbage: “They don’t have power to watch the news!!! Please stop tweeting & golfing while people are dying! Please step up & help!”
Two things are for sure: Cruz and others working on recovery efforts will not be cowed by Trump’s pathetic Twitter rants. And history will not look kindly on the man who lounged around his golf club, tweeting insults and complaining about mean journalists, while his own citizens begged for his help as their country and lives fell further into chaos.
