"Simply false." FBI agents smack down Trump’s petty attack

The head of the FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) smacked down Donald Trump’s attack on the FBI Sunday, calling it “simply false” to suggest that agents are not dedicated to their jobs. “Every day, FBI Special Agents put their lives on the line to protect the American public from national security and criminal threats. “Every day, FBI Special Agents put their lives on the line to protect the American public from national security and criminal threats. Agents perform these duties with unwavering integrity and professionalism and a focus on complying with the law and the Constitution,” FBIAA head Thomas O’Connor said in a statement on Twitter.

“This is why the FBI continues to be the premier law enforcement agency in the world. FBI Agents are dedicated to their mission; suggesting otherwise is simply false.”

The FBIAA represents more than 13,000 active and former FBI special agents, according to the group’s website.

O’Connor’s statement came in response to Trump’s unhinged attack on the FBI, which started Saturday night and continued through Sunday.

In a series of tweets, Trump claimed that the FBI’s reputation was in “tatters” because of the leadership of former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired in May after he refused to ease up on the investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

“After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” Trump tweeted.

Trump also implied that both the FBI and the Justice Department had treated Flynn unfairly, and ranted about Hillary Clinton not being charged for a crime that she didn’t commit. “Rigged system, or just a double standard?” he tweeted.

Trump’s tweets drew swift condemnation from current and former law enforcement officials.

In a masterful subtweet, Comey shot back at Trump Sunday afternoon, quoting his own testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee in June.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder also hit back at Trump’s petty comments on Sunday.

“Nope. Not letting this go. The FBI’s reputation is not in ‘tatters,'” Holder tweeted. “It’s composed of the same dedicated men and women who have always worked there and who do a great, apolitical job.”

“You’ll find integrity and honesty at FBI headquarters and not at 1600 Penn Ave right now,” he declared.

Trump’s latest unhinged tweetstorm comes just a day after he blurted out evidence of potential obstruction of justice in a tweet about Flynn, who on Friday pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his communication with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition period.

As part of the plea deal, Flynn agreed to cooperate with the special counsel’s Russia investigation.

Clearly, Trump is feeling the heat. But instead of letting the investigation take its course, Trump has chosen to embark on a destructive path that, ironically, may have just made the case against him even stronger

And no one, including the FBI, is swayed by his increasingly unhinged behavior.
