Democrat Jennifer McClellan will be the state’s first Black congresswoman.

Two-time losing candidate Leon Benjamin will again try to win the seat left open by the death of Democratic Rep. Donald McEachin.

McEachin had recently been reelected for a fourth time to represent the Congressional district comprising most of Richmond, Virginia’s state capital.

Other Democratic lawmakers said the GOP leader needs to apologize for his comment calling for violence against the Speaker.
