President Joe Biden released his budget request for the upcoming fiscal year Monday, calling on Congress to stick to the spending agreement brokered last year and to revamp tax laws so that the “wealthy pay their fair share.”

An analysis by the Urban Institute estimated that extending the credit as developed by the Biden administration would cut child poverty by 40%.

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) wants to do away with the expanded child tax credit that has kept nearly 4 million kids out of poverty this year.

The expanded child tax credit is set to expire next week. Policy experts say that would cut off critical aid to tens of thousands of Virginia families.
