Trump heads off to golf trophy ceremony after a weekend spent attacking Puerto Rico

The announcement that Trump would attend the trophy ceremony came just hours after his latest attack on hurricane victims in Puerto Rico, who Trump referred to as “politically motivated ingrates.”

Trump is expected to arrive at the golf tournament Sunday afternoon and will participate in the trophy ceremony at 6 p.m. The event will take place on the 18th green of Liberty National Golf Course on the grounds of a luxury country club in New Jersey.

But first, Trump will have to tear himself away from his own luxury golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he spent his weekend playing rounds and crassly antagonizing the hurricane-ravaged island of Puerto Rico.

Since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico 10 days ago, Trump has shown little to no interest in responding to the growing humanitarian crisis. Even criticism from his most steadfast allies like Breitbart’s Curt Schilling hasn’t motivated Trump to step up his woefully inadequate response to the disaster.

On Saturday, from the comfort of his luxury country club, Trump complained that hurricane victims in Puerto Rico “want everything done for them” and then proceeded to lash out at the Mayor of San Juan for asking the U.S. government to provide assistance to American citizens in need of help.

As he played golf this weekend, Trump even had the gall to criticize the leadership skills of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who was wading in chest-high floodwater trying to locate stranded victims.

GOP strategist Ana Navarro called Trump out on Sunday morning for his hypocrisy about leadership and personal responsibility.

“This is a guy who dodged the draft, and other people went and fought that war. This is a guy who has had his properties taken out of bankruptcy by other people, including the people of Puerto Rico,” Navarro said. “This is a guy who is sitting in a fancy golf course while people in Puerto Rico are dying.”

Currently, only five percent of Puerto Ricans have electricity, and the percentage of the island without water has increased from 44 percent to 55 percent.

But clearly, Trump has other, more pressing issues to deal with — namely, his two fortes of playing golf and shirking his responsibilities.
