Trump slings racist slur at event to honor Navajo code talkers

Trump was mostly silent, scratching his own speech to let one of the veterans tell the history of the heroic code talkers.

Then, as the veterans stood next to him, with a portrait of President Andrew Jackson — who signed the Indian Removal Act — in the background, “We have a representative in Congress they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.”

Referring to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as “Pochontas” has been one of Trump’s favorite, and most despicable, slurs. And during an event to honor Native Americans, it was one of the few things he could think to say.

The episode was yet another example of Trump being completely unable to control his racist impulses, no matter the audience.

TRUMP: You’re very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas. But you know what? I like you. Because you are special. You are special people, you are really incredible people.

Trump coined the use of “Pocahontas” as a slur against Warren, which he has repeatedly used to insult her, ignoring the blatant racism in continuing to use the term.

In this instance, it didn’t matter that the Native Americans he was speaking to put their lives on the line in defense of their country and the freedom of the world.

To Trump, they were just window dressing for another racial tirade.
