Trump soundly embarrassed by second news outlet in 24 hours

But this time, CNN clapped back.

“.@FoxNews is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly,” Trump whined. “The outside world does not see the truth from them!”

CNN’s PR team did not miss a beat.

Half an hour after Trump sent the tweet, they shot back with a pointed message:

As CNN’s Brian Stelter pointed out Sunday morning, the network’s response to Trump was wildly more popular than his initial tweet.

“Just noticed that @CNNPR’s response to @realDonaldTrump has twice as many shares as his original tweet,” Stelter tweeted. “Almost twice as many faves too.”

If the humiliation weren’t bad enough, Trump might have placed himself in legal jeopardy when he picked the losing fight with CNN.

Norm Eisen, former chief White House ethics lawyer under President Barack Obama, noted that Trump’s tweet could be used against him as his administration is currently suing AT&T in an effort to stop its purchase of Time Warner, which owns CNN.

“Dear Dodo-in-Chief: u realize that this tweet is going 2be an exhibit against u in the DOJ -TimeWarner antitrust case right? It also smacks of collusion since u did it on day when Vlad cracked down on US networks,” Eisen tweeted. “For that reason, it may open u to other civil liability.”

Trump continues to use Twitter as his preferred method of petulant attacks. But by doing so, he also opens himself up to immediate and very public smackdowns.
