Trump throws tantrum over lack of praise, says he should have left 3 Americans in Chinese jail
The rogue Twitter employee who temporarily shut down Donald Trump’s account on Nov. 2 may have had the right idea. Trump’s account was quickly restored, and now there’s a brand new and thoroughly disgusting reason to wish it hadn’t been. Trump’s account was quickly restored, and now there’s a brand new and thoroughly disgusting reason to wish it hadn’t been.
In what was actually a positive accomplishment for once, Trump helped to secure the release of three UCLA basketball players who had been detained by the Chinese government for shoplifting.
But of course, he immediately made it about him and demanded that the students thank him for doing his job — which their athletic conference had already done.
And when LaVar Ball, the father of one of the athletes, expressed derision toward Trump — asking “Who?” when asked about Trump’s involvement in his son’s release, and saying, “Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out.” — Trump simply couldn’t take the high road and let the comments go.
Instead, he had to lash out petulantly and cruelly toward Ball’s son, LiAngelo, and the other students, saying “I should have left them in jail!”
Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!

This is so beyond the pale for how a commander in chief ought to conduct themselves, and yet it is simply par for the embarrassing course for Trump.
A man who demands that his staff take turns saying nice things about him, and whose staffers take pains to only present “positive” polls so as to not make him sad, is clearly someone who has a desperate need for constant and unwavering praise.
Saying he should have allowed an American citizen to sit in a foreign prison on minor charges, all because someone didn’t prostrate himself enough in thanks for Trump doing the basic duty of his job, is further evidence of Trump’s manifest unfitness for office.
