Trump's "very fine" neo-Nazis are terrorizing mother of slain Charlottesville protester
Four months after a white nationalist killed Heather Heyer by running her over in the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia, neo-Nazi radicals continue to terrorize her mother, Susan Bro. These are some of the same anarchists that Donald Trump touted as “very fine people” after they went on a violent rampage under the guise of protecting Confederate war memorials.
Today, the location of Heyer’s ashes must remain at an unmarked, undisclosed, “completely protected” location out of fear of extremists. “It’s a symptom of hate in society that you should have to protect your child’s grave, for Pete’s sake,” Bro tells the Daily Beast. “So, I’m protecting my child now.”
Since Heyer’s death, hatemongers have told Bro that her daughter deserved to die and suggest she wasn’t actually killed by the neo-Nazi’s speeding car. They have also threatened her life.
“It’s kind of stupid,” she said. “You threaten the mother of someone you already killed because she dares to speak up.”
Heyer was killed after being struck by a car while protesting against white supremacists on Aug. 12. Many counter protesters alongside her were injured. The tragedy shocked the nation and provided stark evidence of how dangerous and depraved the white supremacy movement is in America.
And how mainstream it has become.
Trump’s appalling attempt at false equivalency quickly became a defining point of his failed president and drew rebukes from every conceivable corner — from beauty pageant contestants, to the United Nations and European allies. Former Klan leader David Duke, however, applauded Trump’s comments.
After hearing Trump’s remarks, Bro refused to take his phone call. “I thought, ‘Well, screw him, I’m not dealing with this.’ I’m not talking to him,” she told the Daily Beast. “I have no need to go through this charade of pretending to be nice and happy.”
Four months later, her opinion of Trump has fallen even further:
He disrespects everybody, Heather’s not special in that regard,” Bro says of the president. “He disrespects Native Americans, black people, history, everything. He has no respect for anybody. Having seen him pre- and since the election, it’s not surprising. He has never changed who he was. This man is not about respect. He never was, he never will be. It’s who he is.
Heather’s killer now faces a first-degree murder charge for speeding his car into the crowd of counter protesters with the intent of maiming people.
