"Unprecedented": Espionage expert decries Trump thought police in every government agency

Intelligence expert Malcolm Nance exposed a frightening dimension of Donald Trump’s destructive influence on our country by calling out the unprecedented way he has infected our government with Soviet-style political officers whose main function is to police loyalty to Donald Trump. On MSNBC’s “AMJoy,” Nance identified the problem, explaining that since taking office, Trump has been […]

On MSNBC’s “AMJoy,” Nance identified the problem, explaining that since taking office, Trump has been “putting, literally, political commissars into the administration.”

“This has never occurred in the history of the United States, where there were people there to test your ideological purity to Donald Trump, not to the Constitution, not to the defense of this nation.”

Nance then explained the way a “true patriot” would respond to the pressure that Trump’s thought police are bringing to bear in federal agencies:

The Constitution is under attack, American democracy… is under attack. True Patriots stand up to that. If I was in one of these Administrations and somebody comes into my office and says ‘Hey you know we’re going to have to talk about your attitude towards things politically,’ I’d dime that person out.

[…] You swear an oath, I swore an oath, he swore an oath, we protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. including within our own government.

Trump’s installation of incompetent and politically-motivated department heads has been obvious from the beginning, as have been his despotic demands for loyalty.

Just this week, the Trump administration’s thought police instituted a crackdown on reality at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while the Republican Congress signaled complicity with his attempts to obstruct the Russia investigation.

But there have been signs of hope all along, as well. Then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates was fired after warning Trump’s White House about now-convicted felon Michael Flynn, ostensibly for refusing to go along with Trump’s discriminatory Muslim ban. Career professionals at agencies have taken steps to fight back against the Trump administration’s Memory Holing of data they don’t like.

And last week, Democrats took one step closer to retaking the U.S. Congress with the victory of Senator-elect Doug Jones over accused pedophile Judge Roy Moore in Alabama.

The prospect of a blue wave in 11 months means that Americans may finally get the chance to undo some of the damage that Trump has done, and to bring back the democracy he is actively trying to upend.
