Washington Post busts Trump’s favorite failed propagandist trying to help Roy Moore

One particular longtime GOP propagandist went so far as to try to feed the Washington Post a fake Moore accuser, then “expose” them falling for the hoax. But his plan failed when reporters caught him red-handed:

A woman who falsely claimed to The Washington Post that Roy Moore, the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, impregnated her as a teenager appears to work with an organization that uses deceptive tactics to secretly record conversations in an effort to embarrass its targets.

[O]n Monday morning, Post reporters saw her walking into the New York offices of Project Veritas, an organization that targets the mainstream news media and left-leaning groups. The organization sets up undercover “stings” that involve using false cover stories and covert video recordings meant to expose what the group says is media bias.

James O’Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas, has spent the past several years conducting such “stings” against Democratic groups and media organizations. He is best known for his attacks on the community organizer group ACORN, using deceptively edited videos of himself sending fake prostitutes to their offices.

Most of his plots have ended in hilarious failure.

He tried several times to infiltrate liberal activist networks and record them admitting to voter fraud or mob violence, all of which failed. He tried to seduce a CNN reporter on a boat full of sex toys and record the whole thing, only for the reporter to catch on. Another time, he used trickery to enter former Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office, which ended in his arrest. He paraded around on a college campus dressed as the Constitution in the hope he’d get footage of liberals beating him up — none did.

And he once tried to bust a Democratic group on campaign finance violations by wiring money to them through a Belizean bank — failing to realize that it was not illegal to do so.

Despite the repeated failure of O’Keefe’s juvenile plots to “sting” liberals, Donald Trump and his cronies have always had a soft spot for him. Trump once transferred Project Veritas $10,000 from his now-defunct “charity foundation.” And White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders once cited an O’Keefe video to smear journalists.

As with so many of his former attempts, O’Keefe’s self-serving plot to embarrass his political foes crashed and burned. Try as he might — unlike the Post reporters who caught him red-handed — he will never be a real journalist.
