New witnesses say Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted students while at Yale

Nearly a year after the farcical “investigation” into allegations of his sexual assault of Christine Blasey Ford, additional confirmation of the repugnant actions of Supreme Court Justice Brent Kavanaugh has come to light. On Saturday, the New York Times reported that multiple students who attended Yale with Kavanaugh corroborated Deborah Ramirez’s story about being sexually assaulted by him during their freshman year.

Kavanaugh, and frankly the entirety of the Republican Party, dismissed the accusation out of hand. At his hearing over the allegations, Kavanaugh scoffed and said if he had done such a thing it would have been “the talk of campus.” The Times found that was exactly what it was. The Times reported that at least seven people, including Ramirez’s mother, heard about it, and at least two of those people were classmates who heard about it shortly after the party.

Not only that, the Times found yet another story of Kavanaugh assaulting another student at Yale. One of Kavanaugh’s classmates, Max Stier, said he saw Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different party, and Kavanaugh’s friends pushed his penis “into the hand of a female student.” Stier notified the FBI, but the FBI didn’t investigate.

The FBI also didn’t contact at least 25 individuals who Ramirez indicated could corroborate her story. Several of those people “tried in vain” to reach the FBI to no avail.

Several 2020 Democratic candidates have responded to the new information. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeted “confirmation is not exoneration” and said, “Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached.” California Sen. Kamala Harris said Kavanaugh was “put on the Court through a sham process” and must be impeached. Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro called for impeachment and also said that “Congress should review the failure of the Department of Justice to properly investigate the matter.” Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke also tweeted that Kavanaugh should be impeached, noting “we know he lied under oath.” South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg called for Kavanaugh to step down, and said that if he doesn’t, he should be impeached.

Much like they behaved a year ago, Republicans just want the matter to go away. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went on ABC’s “This Week” to say people “just have to let the anger go and recognize that the democratic process actually moves on.” Trump wants Kavanaugh to sue for libel or the DOJ to “rescue” him.

There’s no mechanism by which the Justice Department could intervene in private parties accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault, much as Trump would like to believe that is the case. Kavanaugh is, of course, welcome to sue anyone he’d like for libel. However, he’d be suing, at minimum, Deborah Ramirez, Deborah Ramirez’s mother, several unnamed classmates of Ramirez from Yale, Max Stier, Christine Blasey Ford, and more.

Additionally, he’d have to go through depositions and court hearings where he is obliged to tell the truth, and he wouldn’t have the FBI or Trump to save him from a thorough investigation. He’d be better off getting impeached because the Trump administration could help stonewall the process, much as they did with his confirmation.

No matter what happens next, expect the GOP to be all hands on deck to support serial sexual assaulters — both Trump and Kavanaugh.
