Fox legal analyst: 'No evidence whatsoever' for Trump’s ‘spy’ lie

Trump’s “spy” lies took a serious beating this week. Even Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano absolutely crushed them in about 20 seconds.

On Tuesday night’s “The Story With Martha MacCallum,” Napolitano was asked to weigh in on Trump’s false claim that the FBI was “spying” on his campaign at the direction of the Obama administration.

“The allegations by Mayor Giuliani over the weekend, which would lead to us to believe that the Trump people think that the FBI had an undercover agent who inveigled his way into the campaign, and was there as a spy on the campaign, seem to be baseless,” Napolitano said. “There’s no evidence for that whatsoever.”

Napolitano added that the FBI’s alleged use of an informant “talking to people on the periphery of the campaign, that is standard operating procedure in intelligence gathering, and in criminal investigations.”

Judge Napolitano is unapologetically pro-Trump but has made a habit of breaking bad news like this to Trump.

Napolitano’s appearance came right after McCallum interviewed Republican attack dog Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who similarly told her he believed that the FBI acted appropriately and last week’s classified briefing on the subject cemented that belief for him.

It has been 10 days since a desperate Trump demanded an investigation into alleged “spying” on his presidential campaign by President Obama and his administration. Since then, the Justice Department has held a pair of classified briefings to mollify Trump.

Following those briefings, leaders from both parties came out and said they had seen no evidence to support Trump’s lies. But Trump was still flogging the “spying” conspiracy theory this past weekend.

Even Trump must realize that his ridiculous spy lies are dead, at least as a strategic matter. As the bad news about Mueller’s investigation continues to come out, Trump’s next desperate attack can’t be far behind.
