The mother of Sgt. La David T. Johnson, killed in an ISIS ambush in Niger two weeks ago, is confirming reports that Donald Trump insulted her family when he called them.

Cowanda Jones-Johnson told the Washington Post that she was in the car when Trump called from the White House.

“President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” she said.

She also confirmed that Trump told the Johnson family Sgt. Johnson “knew what he was getting into when he signed up.”

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL), who has known the family for years and mentored Johnson, was with the family when Trump called. She told The Sentinel newspaper that Sgt. Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, “was livid. She cried forever. She was shaking her head and crying.”

Wilson said she also became irate and tried to talk to Trump. “I said, ‘let me speak to him. Let me speak to him [but] they wouldn’t let me speak to him.”

Trump has fumed about the Johnson family exposing his behavior, launching into yet another one of his immature Twitter tirades, saying the description of his call was “totally fabricated” and even claiming to have proof — though he has not provided any.

Wilson, responding to Trump, told the Post that he “is crazy.”

“He’s proven to be a liar,” she added. Wilson said there were others in the car who heard Trump’s call spoke and would back up her accounting of what happened.

Indeed, Jones-Johnson confirmed to CNN that Wilson’s description was “very accurate.”

Johnson was one of the four soldiers killed in an ISIS attack in Niger. Trump completely ignored the deaths until he was forced to address them. It took him two weeks to contact any of the families.

Trump golfed on five separate occasions during that time.

Facing criticism for his egregious delay, Trump has tried to deflect attention by orchestrating a smear campaign against President Barack Obama, falsely alleging that he did not contact the families of fallen soldiers.

The episode is the latest in a line of Trump attacks and insults against grieving families of soldiers killed while serving in combat.
