Trump: People suffering in my detention camps are 'in better shape' because of me

Trump continues to defend his detention camps and the horrifying conditions inside.

Trump reacted to recent disclosures about horrific conditions in migrant detention facilities by insisting they are “happy” to be there.

On Sunday, Trump slammed a report by the New York Times and El Paso Times on the conditions inside the migrant detention center in Clint, Texas.

As he almost always does regarding news stories exposing his wrongdoing, Trump claimed the report was fabricated. Then he went on to say migrants like what he’s doing to them.

“People that came from unbelievable poverty, that had no water, that had no anything where they came from, those are people that are very happy with what’s going on,” Trump said. “Relatively speaking, they’re in much better shape right now.”

The conditions that Trump claims people are “very happy” with are disgusting.

“Outbreaks of scabies, shingles and chickenpox were spreading among the hundreds of children who were being held in cramped cells,” the report noted, relaying first-hand accounts from Border Patrol agents.

The agents described stench from children’s clothing so strong that it spread to their own apparel.

Children “cried constantly” and one girl was put on a cot to sleep in front of agents because she “seemed likely enough to try to kill herself.”

The report echoes other investigations into the facilities where children are being kept as a result of Trump’s decision to change policy and take children from their families.

The U.S. Inspector General’s office said in a report last week that Trump’s camps are the site of dangerous overcrowding. One manager described the situation as a “ticking time bomb.”

Simultaneously nurses are raising alarms about how Border Patrol agents are dragging their feet in administering care to sick children, while the body count of children dying in U.S. custody has risen.

Trump continues to lie and spin while voices are raised in protest against what he is doing, from members of Congress to individual citizens.

Children being held in unsanitary conditions aren’t “very happy.” Trump continues to show how much disregard he has for human life and how disconnected he is from reality.
