Fiorina says 'it is vital' that Trump be impeached — but she might still vote for him

Former Republican candidate for president Carly Fiorina called Donald Trump’s conduct “impeachable,” but she might still vote for him in 2020, she told CNN’s Poppy Harlow on Monday.

Fiorina said, “It is vital that he be impeached,” adding that his “conduct is impeachable.” She called Trump’s attacks on Lt. Col. Vindman during the impeachment investigation “destructive to our republic.”

“I think he is going to be impeached,” she said, adding she thought the Senate would not remove Trump from office.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee recommended two articles of impeachment against Trump, one for abuse of power and the other for obstruction of Congress.

Throughout the conversation, Fiorina repeatedly stated how disappointed she was in today’s Republican Party for showing unwavering loyalty to Trump.

“The Republican Party right now seems to be all about pledging fealty to Donald Trump no matter what,” Fiorina said.

Yet when asked if she would support Trump in 2020, Fiorina said she might vote for him, noting it would depend on “who the Democrats put up.”

Fiorina ran against Trump for the Republican nomination in 2016, and briefly became Sen. Ted Cruz’s vice presidential running mate in a last-ditch effort to help Cruz’s struggling campaign. After Trump became the nominee, Fiorina voted for him in the general election.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump viciously attacked Fiorina, including insulting her looks.

“Look at that face!” Trump said, according to Rolling Stone, when Fiorina came up on a television screen near him. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

In September 2015, Trump said that listening to Fiorina for more than five minutes gave him a headache.

“I think that she’s got a good line of pitter-patter. But when you listen for more than five minutes, you develop a tremendous headache,” Trump said. Trump also attacked Fiorina’s record as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, and for losing badly in her 2010 California Senate race, where Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer soundly defeated her.

In 2016, Fiorina overcame the personal and professional insults to cast her ballot for Trump. In 2020, Fiorina leaves the door open to looking past what she described as impeachable offenses to support him once again.
