Trump sends Christmas card to Democrats with 6-page letter of insults
Trump had a rather unusual way of wishing Democratic lawmakers ‘Merry Christmas’ on the day they impeached him.
Republicans have complained that impeachment would ruin Christmas.
And Donald Trump tried to make that complaint a reality Wednesday, when he had his White House aides hand out Christmas cards to Democratic members of Congress filled with the six-page diatribe Trump sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this week listing his grievances with impeachment.
Senators received the letter inside a Christmas card with, true to Trumpian style, a gold leaf American flag.
“Thanks for this card & your 6 page impeachment screed,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) tweeted. “Bizarrely delivered together. Happy Holidays & best wishes for the coming year!”

However, some Democratic House members — who voted to impeach Trump on Wednesday — seemed only to receive the letter of insults in their envelope, sans Christmas card.
“Received this ‘gift’ from The White House,” Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) tweeted Thursday morning. “Inside the customary holiday card envelope was … not a holiday card. Instead it was Trump’s rambling, incoherent 6-page letter. I’m guessing he didn’t like my speech yesterday.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has become a favorite target of the right and Trump in particular, also received only Trump’s angry screed.
“They’re coming into the House, too,” Ocasio-Cortez replied to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who received the letter in his Christmas card. “No Christmas card here – but no coal, either,” Ocasio-Cortez noted.
The letter Trump sent in the Christmas card — or without the Christmas card, for some members — was filled with insults, lies, misleading statements, and bizarre accusations, including that he’s being treated worse than the witches in the Salem witch trials, who were murdered.
Trump has repeatedly bragged that he has somehow saved Christmas from the imaginary Fox News-created “war on Christmas” by making it safe to say “Merry Christmas” since taking office.
Trump’s trolling of Democrats seems more befitting of Festivus — the “Seinfeld”-created holiday in which revelers are supposed to air their grievances — than Christmas.
