GOP congressmen embarrass themselves trying to defend Trump's crimes

If this is the best spin Trump’s biggest defenders on Capitol Hill have, then you really know the Mueller report was bad.

On Friday morning, GOP Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Mark Meadows of North Carolina — two of Trump’s biggest defenders on Capitol Hill — went on CNN to defend Trump for the multiple instances of obstruction of justice special counsel Robert Mueller outlined in his explosive report. And it was bad, to say the least.

The shameful moment began when CNN anchor Chris Cuomo asks the two men how it’s acceptable for Trump to ask his White House counsel to fire Mueller.

Things quickly went off the rails.

JIM JORDAN: But he didn't do it

CUOMO: If I ask you to punch Meadows & you don't, the request is still wrong

MEADOWS: But it's not a crime unless he assaults me!

“But he didn’t do it, he didn’t do it,” a smug Jordan says to Cuomo, referring to the fact that Trump didn’t fire Mueller himself after White House counsel Don McGahn refused to fire Mueller for him.

Cuomo pointed out to the two men that “asking matters.”

“If I ask you to punch Mr. Meadows and you don’t do it, the request was still wrong,” Cuomo said.

Needless to say, if Jordan and Meadows — who always find a way to defend the worst of Trump’s very bad behavior — can barely muster a coherent defense of Trump after the Mueller report, then you know the report is really, really bad.
