Sarah Sanders admitted she lied to America about why Trump fired Comey

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report confirms what the public has known from Day 1: Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a liar.

If you had any doubts by now that White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a bald-faced liar, special counsel Robert Mueller’s report will dispel you of that notion.

In a section of the report detailing the firing of then FBI Director James Comey, Mueller reveals that Sanders spun a completely baseless story to the press and the public about the firing.

Specifically, Sanders’ claim that Comey was fired because “countless FBI agents” had “lost confidence in Comey” was just patently false. As the report notes, Sanders “acknowledged to investigators that her comments were not founded on anything.” And investigators separately found that, indeed, “the evidence does not support” her claims.

“Sanders told the press after Comey’s termination that the White House had heard from countless FBI agents who had lost confidence in Comey. But the evidence does not support those claims,” Mueller’s report reads. “The President told Comey at their January 27 dinner that ‘the people of the FBI really like [him],’ no evidence suggests that the President heard otherwise before deciding to terminate Comey, and Sanders acknowledged to investigators that her comments were not founded on anything.” She claimed that she had fabricated the story “in the heat of the moment.”

Sanders has long played the victim when people accuse her of being a liar.

She, along with other Trump cronies, attacked White House Correspondents’ Association host Michelle Wolf for joking about Sanders’ lies during her roast at the 2018 dinner.

“I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. But she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smokey eye,” Wolf said in her roast. “Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.”

The innocuous joke led to days of breathless media coverage about whether or not Wolf’s joke was attacking Sanders’ appearance. (It wasn’t.)

Of course, the joke simply pointed out Sanders’ penchant for lying.

It appears the only time Sanders tells the truth is when she may face consequences — i.e. jail time — for spewing lies.

Maybe it’s a good thing she’s been totally absent from the White House Briefing Room podium: It means she has less time to lie to the public.
