Ted Cruz: I'm just like Rosa Parks when I fight to help millionaires buy elections

In a federal court filing submitted on Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) compared his actions to those of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

Cruz is currently in the middle of a lawsuit with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). He loaned his 2018 reelection campaign $260,000 and is now attempting to be repaid the entire amount despite laws capping repayment at $250,000. Cruz, who is worth a reported $4 million, wants the additional $10,000.

Cruz’s filing stated attacks the FEC, stating, “The FEC also asserts that Senator Cruz and the Cruz Committee inflicted these injuries on themselves because they could have arranged to repay the Senator’s loans using pre-election funds … Yes, and Rosa Parks could have sat in the back of the bus.”

The excerpt of the filing was posted online by Adav Noti, the senior director of trial litigation and chief of staff at the non-profit Campaign Legal Center.

In contrast to Cruz’s crusade for the ultra-rich, Rosa Parks sat in the whites-only section of a public bus in Alabama to protest the policy of racial segregation.

Her actions were a pivotal movement in securing civil rights for millions of Americans and furthering the cause of racial equality and justice.

Ted Cruz’s filing puts his advocacy for the super-rich on the same plane as Parks, which is wholly disconnected from reality. The law actually exists so that multimillionaires won’t be the only ones who can run for public office.

But acting disconnected from reality is quite in line with Ted Cruz’s typical behavior.
