Nancy Pelosi shames Republicans for indifference to election interference

Every sworn-in House Democrat has now signed on to sponsor Rep. Elijah Cummings’ and Rep. Eric Swalwell’s Protecting Our Democracy Act, which would establish a “12-member, bipartisan, independent commission empowered to interview witnesses, obtain documents, issue subpoenas, and receive public testimony to examine attempts by the Russian government or others to use electronic means to influence, interfere with, or undermine trust in last year’s U.S. elections.”
Zero House Republicans have signed on as sponsors.
In response to their unilateral indifference, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a statement, deservedly calling them out for their unconscionable refusal to show concern about this urgent threat to our democracy:
Vladimir Putin’s unprecedented assault on our democracy should outrage every American. Yet while House Democrats are unanimously standing up to protect the integrity of our elections, Republicans have sat on their hands while President-elect Trump praises Putin and tries to discredit, disparage and dismantle the U.S. Intelligence Community.
Defending the sanctity of American democracy is more important than any partisan consideration. We hope Republicans will join us to create the independent, bipartisan commission the American people deserve to understand how Russia hacked into our democratic institutions, and to ensure it never happens again.
Once more, I am left wondering to where the Republicans’ oft-claimed patriotism has vanished during this grave national crisis.
