People Trump attacks keep getting bombs — so he blames the free press
The bomb threat hit list looks like a list of Trump’s Most Hated.
The bomb threats continue to pile up, and Trump keeps blaming the victims.
On Thursday morning, as police scrambled to deal with suspicious packages sent to Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro, Trump tweeted that the root of the country’s “anger” is the press.
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” he announced. “It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”
That wildly irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric came after Trump effectively blamed the media last night for the bomb threats while addressing loyalists at a Wisconsin rally.
“The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and stop the endless hostility and constant negative and often times false attacks and stories,” he told a cheering crowd, reading from a prepared script. “Have to do it. They’ve got to stop.”
The impossible-to-miss message from the White House is this: If the press changes the way it covers Trump, the threat of political violence will stop.
And that was just hours after CNN’s New York City newsroom had to be evacuated following a bomb threat.
Whoever is sending the bombs, they are picking targets that have all specifically been targets of both Trump’s rage and conservative media. Indeed, the targets basically look like a Fox News Most Hated List:
LATEST: Suspicious packages are known as of Thursday morning to have been sent to:
• Barack Obama
• Joe Biden
• Hillary Clinton
• Eric Holder
• John Brennan / CNN
• Maxine Waters (2)
• George Soros
• Robert De Nirohttps://t.co/iTTbwlpBwG— NBC News (@NBCNews) October 25, 2018
As usual, Trump is incapable in acting in any way that remotely resembles being presidential, and trying to unify a country at a time of crisis.
Reminiscent of when he sided with neo-Nazis after they rioted in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year, where a peaceful protester was killed, Trump is now siding with whoever is sending the bombs by giving them public reasons for doing so — it’s the media’s fault.
Trump, of course, refuses to take any responsibility for his own incitement of political violence, or his relentless campaign to tag journalists as the “enemy of the people.”
Anyone who thinks Trump will ever do the right thing, especially at a time of crisis, is just wasting their time.
