Devin Nunes caught lying about 'extensive harassment' in lawsuit

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was caught making a series of unsubstantiated claims about his political opponents’ supposed harassment of his wife and the school administrators and teachers in the district where she works.

A fact check published on Tuesday by the Fresno Bee, Nunes’ hometown paper, investigated claims he made in two recent lawsuits.

Nunes claimed in one lawsuit, filed against watchdog group Campaign for Accountability and research firm Fusion GPS, that emails obtained in a public-records request resulted in “extensive harassment” of his wife, who is a teacher, and other school officials in Tulane County, California.

The Bee reported after investigating Nunes’ allegations that “The school says it has no records of teachers reporting harassment.”

In another lawsuit, Nunes claimed Campaign for Accountability “doxxed” officials, or published private information that leads to online harassment.

But the Bee noted that the emails published by Campaign for Accountability “did not include identifying information of staff besides Elizabeth Nunes.”

In fact, the emails the group obtained were on a password-protected account and had not been publicized, the Bee noted, “until Nunes’ lawsuit, which links directly to the full trove of those emails.”

Nunes, one of Trump’s most high-profile allies on Capitol Hill, has gone on a lawsuit spree in the last few months.

In addition to suing groups who sought information on his work as a public official, the Republican congressman has sued Twitter to find out the identity of a parody cow, as well as McClatchy, the parent company of the Fresno Bee.

He is even suing some of his constituents, who have blasted him for flooding the system with his complaints.
