GOP congressman insults Mueller ahead of House testimony
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) doesn’t think highly of former special counsel Robert Mueller.
Well, that’s an insult we’ve never heard before.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is gearing up for former special counsel Robert Mueller’s House testimony later this month by lobbing bizarre insults.
“It reinforced the anal opening that I believe Mueller to be,” Gohmert told Politico of the report Mueller issued back in March about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, the Trump campaign’s communication with said Russians, and Trump’s multiple attempts to obstruct the investigation looking into Russia’s election hacking.
Mueller is set to testify before a joint hearing of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee on July 17, where he will face questions about the report he issued.
Democrats want to help the American people understand the conclusions Mueller drew in order to counteract the disinformation Trump and his band of defenders has spewed to try and mitigate the damage. Letting the American people hear directly from Mueller will be an important step in helping the public learn about what’s in the long and sometimes complicated report.
Republicans, on the other hand, want to try and discredit Mueller by asking about the stupid, debunked conspiracy theories Trump-world — with the help of Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets — has pushed.
Not only that, Republicans are behaving like immature children, hurling insults like “anal opening” at Mueller. (We assume Gohmert means “asshole,” but are open to hearing your ideas about what he may have meant.)
And given how immaturely Gohmert is behaving before Mueller even steps foot into the committee room for this hearing, we expect that the GOP lawmaker behavior exhibited that day will be totally beyond the pale.
