Lindsey Graham wants Supreme Court to look into his conspiracy theory
Lindsey Graham wants the Supreme Court to join him in the deep end.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of Trump’s closest congressional allies, has said he will personally call Chief Justice John Roberts to have him investigate a conspiracy from Fox News.
Graham said he would make the extraordinary and extreme move for the sake of Trump’s emotions.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Graham said Trump is “down” on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA), and said that led him to his plan to involve the head of the Supreme Court.
Graham said he would ask, “Would you please look and see what happened? Because I don’t want to lose the FISA program.”
The FISA court, which grants warrants for surveillance activities and which has judges appointed by Roberts, is at the center of the long-running conservative conspiracy theory.
They believe that the FISA court is a key element in the supposed spying on Trump’s presidential campaign by the government under the Obama administration.
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), another serial Trump defender similarly wanted to get Roberts involved in the FISA court earlier last year, as part of an attempt to give the conspiracy some weight.
Meanwhile in reality what happened — as shown in the Mueller report — was that Trump’s campaign made repeated contacts with Russian operatives in hopes of securing political dirt on Hillary Clinton.
Then, as Mueller’s team investigated those contacts, Trump repeatedly tried to obstruct justice.
Invoking the FISA Court and Justice Roberts is largely the product of Trump’s Fox News obsession and a compulsion to get the focus off the investigation’s damning conclusions.
It is unhinged conspiracy theorizing being indulged by the senior Republican leading the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham doesn’t want to just involve a court, but the most important, most far-reaching court in America.
In service of Trump, Graham wants justice perverted, and he wants to turn the Supreme Court into a lapdog chasing after Trump’s infantile obsessions.
