Massive nationwide Women’s March turnout shames Trump on inauguration anniversary

Donald Trump woke up on the one-year anniversary of his inauguration not only to a shutdown engineered by his congressional allies, but to massive Women’s Marches coast to coast loudly proclaiming resistance to his presidency and all it represents.

Instead of dying out, the Woman’s March movement is as strong as it was a year ago, if not stronger. And it has some serious wins that it has racked up over a year of resistance to Trump.

The L.A. Times noted that in New York City, “crowds were backed up for dozens of blocks leading to the rally site on the edge of Central Park,” while “more than 4,500 people marched through downtown Dallas.”

In Chicago, organizers estimated 300,000 showed up, 50,000 more than in 2017.

Right outside the White House gates, a massive crowd assembled with signs to protest Trump. And from California to North Carolina, protesters showed up in droves.

Trump lamely tried to respond to the protests, tweeting “Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March.”

But many quickly responded to him to make it clear: they did not need his blessing to march, and more importantly, the marchers were taking to the streets against him.

The last year has seen a grassroots uprising against Trump and the Republican Party. Not only have Americans called him out for supporting misogyny, racism, and hate, but they have also directly opposed Republican attempts to enshrine harmful policies.

His attempt at a Muslim ban had people in the streets while they gave organizations like the ACLU massive financial support to legally oppose his discrimination.

Republicans tried to repeal Obamacare but were repelled and rejected. And even when the Trump team did succeed legislatively with tax cuts, they were hung like a millstone around the party’s necks.

As record-breaking numbers of women began running for office, local seats held by Republicans were flipped and Democrats won statewide races in New Jersey, Virginia and even in Alabama.

Trump and his party are facing massive headwinds in 2018, and women are leading the charge. One year after he was sworn in, they were outside his bedroom window to make sure he could see them coming.
