Matt Gaetz demands Congress 'get back to legislating' after voting no on everything

On Wednesday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) took a break from defending Trump’s crimes to whine on Facebook about the supposed lack of legislation moving through the House of Representatives.

“Wondering when we can get back to legislating again…” Gaetz wrote, accompanied by a photo of himself staring off into the distance.

Gaetz seems to be complaining about some House committees fulfilling their constitutional duty to oversee the executive branch, a branch currently headed up by a man swimming in corruption.

While some committees are looking into Trump’s crimes and malfeasance, the House has spent the past five and a half months passing a slew of high-profile bills.

After the new Democratic majority ended the Trump-led government shutdown, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi led the House to pass major legislation on the following topics: Voting rights, gun safety, immigration, pay equity for women, prohibiting anti-LGBTQ discrimination, protecting people with preexisting health conditions, lowering prescription drug prices, and reducing violence against women.

Gaetz, who claims to want to get back to legislating, voted against every single one of those measures.

And instead of focusing on legislating, Gaetz spends most of his time and energy on running interference for Trump.

“I wake up every day and I do what I can to expose what I believe is an intractable bias among the people who are investigating the president,” Gaetz said in March.

At a Trump rally in May, Gaetz vowed to investigate and even jail those who would dare to investigate Trump’s criminal activity.

In a show of devotion to Trump, Gaetz even engaged in possible witness tampering by threatening Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen the day before Cohen was scheduled to testify before Congress.

Gaetz is even willing to lie to bolster Trump’s agenda. In April, he claimed to be visiting a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border when he was really 100 miles away looking at prototypes of a border wall.

One of the few pieces of legislation Gaetz has introduced was an unserious attempt to appease Trump. Gaetz introduced a resolution to strip Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of his security clearance and named it the PENCIL Resolution — after one of Trump’s asinine nicknames for Schiff, who Trump once called a “little pencil neck.”

The House majority is both passing serious legislation and engaging in serious oversight activity.

The question is: Will Gaetz take a break from defending Trump long enough to join them?
