McConnell spews 18 minutes of lies and nonsense from the Senate floor
Mitch McConnell delivered a shameless speech in which he gave Trump and Republicans a pass on their years of conspiracy theorizing.
In a Tuesday morning floor speech, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell attacked Democrats over their response to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, conveniently deeming the report “case closed” for Trump.
In his speech, McConnell blamed former President Barack Obama for allowing Russia to meddle in the 2016 presidential race — leaving out the fact that McConnell himself stopped Obama from making any forceful response in order to help his own party win the election.
Completely shameless — @senatemajldr McConnell, who did more than anyone to prevent Obama from going public with concerns about Russian interference in 2016, is now on Senate floor mocking Dems for belatedly "awakening to the dangers of Russian aggression." pic.twitter.com/NEFMbURDi2

And he left out other critical points of Mueller’s report, including that Mueller found Trump’s campaign had numerous communications with Russia and was happy to benefit from Russia’s meddling. He also left out the fact that Mueller detailed numerous instances of Trump obstructing justice — findings that hundreds of former federal prosecutors say would have earned Trump an indictment had Trump been an average citizen and not president.
McConnell smirked through his 18-minute troll from the Senate floor, calling on Democrats to “stop endlessly re-litigating a two-and-a-half-year-old election result.“
Yes, McConnell said that about Democrats — not Trump and members of his own party, who continuously invoke Hillary Clinton and push ridiculous and false conspiracy theories about her campaign and the investigation into Trump’s Russia ties.
McConnell went on to accuse the Obama administration of “[sending] the Kremlin the signal they could get away with almost anything” — of course failing to mention that Trump couldn’t even bother to condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call for the “sweeping and systematic” meddling Mueller said Russia committed in 2016.
NBC News reporter Leigh Ann Caldwell asked McConnell after his speech why he didn’t bring up Trump’s refusal to call out Putin to his face in the phone call last week. McConnell ignored her.
In a speech following McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accurately called McConnell’s speech an “astounding bit of whitewashing.”
Ultimately, McConnell’s speech was another embarrassing display for a man who has done more to break down congressional norms in order to amass more power for himself.
No wonder McConnell is the most unpopular senator in the entire United States.
