Nicolle Wallace to GOP: 'Your silence is going to get somebody killed'

After yet another day of Trump smears against the FBI, MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace — a former Republican strategist who served President George W. Bush and John McCain — asked a chillingly relevant question.

On Thursday afternoon’s “Deadline: White House,” Wallace told her panel that there were a few things she was tired of hearing.

“[Trump’s] base is unshakeable, the president is comfortable obliterating norms, and nothing is going to happen,” she said. “Something is going to happen!”

“Somebody is going to get hurt and where is the outcry for the enablers?” Wallace asked. “There are real people standing by. The Justice Department just greenlit a third briefing of classified information about a Republican informant, none of us should know his name, but we all do because the president wants to know what he knew about the counterintelligence investigation into his campaign. And I guess my question is, when do people stand up and say, you’re tainted by standing — your silence is going to get someone killed.”

Since he doesn’t feel the need to prepare for nuclear diplomacy with North Korea, Trump spent Thursday morning ranting on Twitter about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation (and misspelling “special counsel” for the ninth time).

“When and where will all of the many conflicts of interest be listed by the 13 Angry Democrats (plus) working on the Witch Hunt Hoax. There has never been a group of people on a case so biased or conflicted,” Trump wrote in one tweet, and harangued the Justice Department and Mueller’s team in several others.

He even had the nerve to demand that Americans thank him for firing FBI Director James Comey, an act that Trump has repeatedly admitted was intended to obstruct the Russia investigation.

And hours earlier, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani accused Mueller of a crime, telling the Associated Press that Mueller and his team are “trying to frame” Trump.

But Republicans have, at best, continued to stand by and allow Trump to undermine and obstruct the FBI. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan acknowledged, on Wednesday, that there is no evidence to support Trump’s spying lies, but at a press conference Thursday, still defended the sham “oversight” that has been used to try and out a legitimate FBI informant.

Trump’s abuses of power are frightening, but they would not be possible without the complicity of Republicans in Congress.
