Rep. John Lewis: 'Hold on. Keep the faith. Be good to each other.'

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) seems to always know the right thing to say. Before Donald Trump’s inauguration, he channeled what many of us were (and still are) feeling: “I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president.” Now, as the resistance builds against a presidency that gets worse with every passing day, Lewis fortifies us for the fight ahead:
And I say to each and every one one of us: Hold on. Keep the faith. In the name of Martin Luther King, Jr., keep the faith. Be kind, and be good to each other. And I’ll say it again: Never hate, never become bitter.
Lewis’ words came at the close of a speech in which he shared his moving life story. He did not mention Trump (or Trump’s absurd “All talk, talk, talk — no action or results!” attack against him).
He did not have to. His life’s struggle speaks for itself.
As LaGrange College President Dan McAlexander said in introducing Lewis, noting his 40 arrests for civil disobedience: “In a day and age in which words come cheap and so often are not backed by actions, John Lewis’ life serves as an inspiration. He has been the very model — literally, considering how many marches he participated in — of walking the walk and not just talking the talk.”
