'Shame on you!' Pence gets hammered by protesters for child separation

Mike Pence was in Kansas City to promote the Republican tax scam Wednesday afternoon, and got heckled by at least three members of the crowd over the administration’s family separation crisis.

Shortly after Pence began his speech at a rally for pro-Trump PAC America First Policies, he was interrupted by a man in the crowd.

“Mike, where are the children? Shame on you! Shame on you!” the man shouted.

As he was escorted out of the room to jeers from the crowd, two more men heckled Pence and were removed to shouts of “USA!” and “Get the bums out of here!”

Pence’s public shaming comes as pressure continues to mount over the Trump administration’s family separation crisis.

On June 26, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to reunite all detained children and parents within 30 days, and those younger than five years old within two weeks. When the first deadline arrived Tuesday, Trump reacted by blaming the very families he has torn apart.

“I have a solution. Tell people not to come to our country illegally!” Trump said when asked about the deadline.

The Trump administration largely blew the first deadline, only managing to reunite 4 of the 102 children in time.

But anger about Trump’s cruel and racist policy continues to grow as it becomes more apparent that the Trump administration has no plan for reuniting these families. Three California law enforcement agencies have now canceled contracts with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in part because managing protests has become costly and burdensome for staff.

And the actions by the three citizens at Pence’s speech are yet another example of Americans confronting and shaming Trump administration officials over their harmful actions.

In the last few weeks, now-former EPA chief Scott Pruitt was confronted during dinner and urged to resign by a schoolteacher; press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant in Virginia because of her association with Trump; and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was interrupted, while dining at a Mexican restaurant, with chants of “Shame!”

Even a political rally for a Trump PAC isn’t a safe space for Pence to hide.
