Trump thinks people can vote twice by putting on disguises
Trump is making up wild conspiracy theories after GOP’s massive midterm defeat.
Trump is now ranting incoherently about mythical fake voters in a desperate attempt to blame anyone but himself for massive Republican losses on Election Day.
Without any evidence whatsoever, Trump declared in an Oval Office interview that Republicans lost because some voters put on disguises to vote more than once.
“Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again,” Trump told the Daily Caller, a far-right outlet with ties to white nationalists.
The Daily Caller failed to ask any pertinent follow-up questions about this outrageous claim.
“The Republicans don’t win and that’s because of potentially illegal votes,” Trump said, again without offering any evidence.
Numerous studies, including Trump’s own voter fraud commission, have found no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
What’s more, if widespread voter fraud did exist, it would require such a massive, elaborate, and incredibly risky conspiracy that it makes about as much sense to believe the earth is flat as to believe that hordes of fraudulent voters could somehow sway an American election.
Yet this completely imaginary problem is a mainstream belief among Republicans, who claim that racially discriminatory voter ID laws are required to stop it.
Trump also tried to defend these voter ID laws in the Daily Caller interview — and that’s when things got even more bizarre.
“If you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID,” Trump nonsensically claimed.
Trump, a known racist, then went on to complain about people who call voter ID laws racist.
But the reason people say that is because voter ID laws really are racist. They consistently suppress voters of color, but have little if any effect on white voter turnout.
Republicans around the country have tried to institute voter ID laws, some of which have been struck down by federal courts for explicitly targeting minority populations “with almost surgical precision.”
Voters across the nation came out in droves to flip dozens of U.S. House seats over to Democrats, even in solidly red districts. It was a clear repudiation of Trump and Republicans for their attempts to sabotage health care and pass tax scams to benefit the richest one percent.
After this humiliating defeat, it seems Trump would rather make up a bedtime story about voters playing dress-up than accept the truth of how Americans feel about his agenda.
