Trump throws a fit because he couldn’t get firefighters to endorse him
Trump flipped out on Twitter after the International Association of Fire Fighters endorsed Democratic hopeful Joe Biden.
What a fragile ego Trump has.
The International Association of Fire Fighters — a powerful union that represents hundreds of thousands of firefighters and emergency medical services personnel around the country — endorsed Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden on Monday, a move that sent Trump into a rage on Twitter.
“I’ll never get the support of Dues Crazy union leadership, those people who rip-off their membership with ridiculously high dues, medical and other expenses while being paid a fortune,” Trump tweeted. “But the members love Trump. They look at our record economy, tax & reg cuts, military etc. WIN!”
Of course, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll out on Monday showed that working-class white voters — many of whom are union members — do not believe the economy is working for them. The poll found that 57% of white voters without a college degree said the economy “works to benefit those in power” rather than “all people.”
However, Trump’s tweets didn’t stop there.
Trump went on to falsely accuse the media of “pushing” Biden’s candidacy, whom he calls “Sleepy Joe.”
“Sleepy Joe Biden is having his first rally in the Great State of Pennsylvania,” Trump continued. “He obviously doesn’t know that Pennsylvania is having one of the best economic years in its history, with lowest unemployment EVER, a now thriving Steel Industry (that was dead) & great future!”
Trump clearly hasn’t seen recent polling out of Pennsylvania, nor reports that his campaign is panicking about the state slipping away from Trump in 2020.
In fact, Trump’s approval in the Keystone State has dropped 17 percentage points since he took office, according to Morning Consult, and now stands at just 45%. That’s a bad sign for Trump, as he won the state by just 1 point, and garnered less than 50 percent of the vote there.
But wait, there’s more.
Trump went on to continue bashing the IAFF — a group that didn’t endorse a candidate in 2016 but chose to back Biden early in 2020.
“The Dues Sucking firefighters leadership will always support Democrats, even though the membership wants me,” Trump tweeted. “Some things never change!”
Trump’s complaint about not getting an endorsement from firefighters comes after he embarrassed himself earlier this month when a devastating fire swept through the historic Notre Dame Cathedral. Trump tweeted his unsolicited advice, telling them to use water-bombing aircraft to try to put out the flames — advice so bad that a French fire chief called his suggestion “utterly useless.”
Trump is clearly scared about losing working-class white voters in 2020 — a group he desperately needs if he wants to win reelection. But attacking them for not endorsing him isn’t likely to help win them over.
