Trump administration forces children to sleep on rocks and dirt
Photos show families and children being held in disturbing conditions at a Texas border patrol station.
New photos published by CNN on Tuesday reveal that immigrant children and families are being forced by the Trump administration to sleep on the ground with only thin Mylar blankets covering them.
In one of the photos, which were taken at a border patrol station in McAllen, Texas, a woman is sitting on a rocky pathway, leaning against a building and cradling a small child. In another, adults and children are milling about near a large tent filled with children and Mylar blankets.
“Nobody, no matter who you are, where you are from should spend an hour like this,” the source who sent CNN the photos said. “This is the United States of America. Not in our country.”
CNN did not identify the source, only saying it was someone who was allowed to access the area and “was disturbed by the conditions over the weekend.” Trump administration officials confirmed the location as McAllen, Texas.
The Trump administration has a long track record of inflicting cruelty on immigrants at the border.
In April, Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-CA) visited a tent city housing immigrants near El Paso, Texas, and described the conditions as “just heartbreaking.”
“We were stepping over people to walk around in the tent,” Barragán said. “I was really taken aback by the smell. I was in there for five minutes and I just became nauseous, I hate to say it.”
After Trump’s family separation policy ripped thousands of children away from their parents, administration officials cared so little for the well-being of the children that they did not keep track of all the children they kidnapped. To this day, officials are still struggling to reunite all the families they tore apart and traumatized.
The Trump administration also made headlines recently for reportedly contemplating housing immigrant children in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
And on Monday, news broke that the Trump administration had schemed to make massive arrests of immigrants in cities across the country in an effort to frighten other families out of seeking asylum in America.
From tearing kids away from their parents to forcing them to sleep on the hard ground, there seems to be no limit to Trump’s capacity for cruelty toward immigrant children.
