Trump, Kelly entertain talk radio host who wants armed drones in schools

Trump spent part of his weekend entertaining guests just miles away from the site of last week’s mass shooting in Parkland, Florida.

And one of those guests was a conservative columnist and talk radio host who thinks the answer to gun massacres in schools should be armed drones on campuses.

Since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School unfolded on Thursday, Trump and the Republicans have made it very clear that they will not entertain any action that might actually address the epidemic of gun violence in America.

However, it appears they will entertain Wayne Allyn Root — a failed Libertarian Party presidential candidate and a TV personality for the right-wing Newsmax site — who tweeted a message to Trump that, in the wake of the shooting, it is “time to consider armed drones at every school in USA.”

Several hours after that tweet, Root wrote that he was among the guests for Saturday night’s raucous bash at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, and even got the chance to bend chief of staff John Kelly’s ear, as well.

“What an amazing night I had with President Trump at Maralago,” Root said. “I’ll tell you about it in morning. Magical evening. A great man. Quality time with President and his family. Got to meet General Kelly for first time as well.”

Instead of comforting all Americans after the shooting, Trump hid out from the press, blamed the students for not preventing the shooting, then delivered a canned statement in which he failed to use the word “gun,” and took a swipe at anyone calling for measures to prevent gun violence.

Yet Trump is willing to spend “quality time” with a man who suggests armed drones in schools, just one of the absurd suggestions Republicans are making.

Trump and the Republicans are hopelessly out of touch with most Americans on gun violence. And if Trump’s guest list for his latest party is any indication, they are even further out of touch with reality.
