Trump tweets about Tiger Woods, ignores victims of two mass shootings

Trump has completely ignored the victims of two mass shootings in Florida this weekend, choosing instead to tweet about athletes who have said relatively nice things about him.

“The Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say,” Trump tweeted Monday morning. “Tiger wouldn’t play the game – he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again!”

Trump’s tweet came after a Fox News report that Woods urged people to “respect the office” of the president when asked Sunday about his views on Trump.

“He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office,” the famous golfer said. “No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike, personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Trump himself clearly doesn’t respect the office, so it’s odd that Woods insists everyone else do it while Trump is in office. But Trump certainly seemed appreciative.

The shout-out to Woods followed another Monday Trump tweet thanking former NFL running back Jim Brown for his political support.

But Trump couldn’t be bothered on Monday to offer a single word of condolence about the victims of Sunday’s horrific, deadly shooting at a Madden NFL esports tournament held in Jacksonville, Florida.

Incredibly, that shooting came just two days after gunfire shattered a pre-season football game in the same Florida city. One person was killed when a triple shooting erupted outside a Jacksonville football game Friday night, which thousands of people attended.

Trump completely ignored both tragedies.

At the esports tournament, one gamer reportedly opened fire after an argument, killing two people and injuring 11 before killing himself. A single handgun was used, and the mass shooting was captured on video. Police identified 24-year-old David Katz, a white male from Baltimore, Maryland, as the gunman.

Unlike Trump, the esports company and the NFL both immediately posted messages of deep sympathy.

“All of us at Electronic Arts are devastated by this horrific event, and we also join the community in thanking the first responders who were quickly on the scene,” the company stated.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific tragedy today in Jacksonville. Our hearts go out to all those affected,” the NFL said.

Trump’s snub of the Jacksonville gun violence victims is hardly the first time he has turned a blind eye to mass shootings in America.

Back in April, a 29-year-old white man opened fire on patrons of a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee, killing four people and wounding several others. But Trump decided to spend his morning tweeting about North Korea and grousing about the media instead.

Trump didn’t even bother posting a “thoughts and prayers” tweet in response to any of these shootings — the sort of empty gesture that many pro-NRA Republican politicians opt for in the wake of gun rampages.

Trump can’t even be bothered to pretend he cares about victims of gun violence.
