Watch Ocasio-Cortez destroy Kellyanne Conway's excuses for breaking the law in 90 seconds

In a Wednesday congressional hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) destroyed any defense of Kellyanne Conway’s repeated and flagrant violations of the Hatch Act.

Ocasio-Cortez used her time questioning Henry Kerner, the Trump-appointed head of the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), to boil down Conway’s violation of Hatch Act.

“Are you aware of any other senior aid to a president who has systematically violated the Hatch Act to this extent by attacking the potential opponents of the president?” Ocasio-Cortez asked Kerner.

“I’m not aware,” Kerner answered.

“I think this right here gets at the core of what we’re talking about today,” Ocasio-Cortez says. “This is not even partisan because members of Trump’s own administration do not violate the law, this law, to the extent that she does. She is being subject to these reports because she is unique in her flagrant violation and disrespect for the law.”

Conway was invited to testify before the committee, but declined to attend, resulting in a vote by the committee to subpoena her in order to compel her testimony.

“And frankly, when she doesn’t show up to her own congressional hearing today, she’s not just disrespecting Democrats,” Ocasio-Cortez went on to say. Conway “disrespects the entire body. She disrespects every Republican member of this body and disrespects the power that each and every single one of us has.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a freshman Democrat from New York, added that Conway’s behavior “taps into a deeper narrative and a deeper pattern of what is happening in this administration, where they believe the rule of law only belongs and applies to some people and not others.”

The hearing was focused on Conway’s repeated and willful violations of the Hatch Act, a federal law that prohibits most government employees from engaging in partisan politics while acting in their official roles.

The OSC, which is not affiliated with special counsel Robert Mueller, found Conway had repeatedly violated the law and recommended Trump fire her.

Trump, himself accused of breaking a variety of laws, did not follow that recommendation.

In just 90 seconds, Ocasio-Cortez destroys Conway’s defense, concluding that the only explanation for Conway’s continued employment by the White House is its flagrant disregard for the rule of law.
