Even Republican voters are embarrassed by Trump's behavior

It’s no secret that Democrats think Trump’s juvenile outbursts, lies, and just plain stupid comments are embarrassing.

But what is surprising is that a majority of Republicans feel the same way.

That’s according to a new Pew Research poll out Wednesday, which found that 53% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters are “sometimes embarrassed” by Trump’s statements. Even more, 59% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters said they either often or sometimes “feel concerned” about Trump’s remarks.

Those numbers are surprising, given that Republicans still largely support Trump. That means a lot of Republicans would vote for Trump again in 2020 despite thinking his comments are embarrassing.

Of course, Trump gives the country plenty to be embarrassed about.

Just recently, he called Prince Charles — whose official title is the Prince of Wales — the “Prince of Whales,” confusing the country within the U.K. with the sea mammals. He eventually deleted the embarrassingly misspelled tweet and corrected the error.

He also seemed to confuse the moon and Mars, leading the NASA administrator to correct him. The Pentagon also had to correct comments Trump made about transgender troops in an extremely embarrassing interview with Piers Morgan.

Trump has a habit of getting basic facts so badly wrong that he has to be corrected by officials who know better — from officials in his own defense department to local authorities like the fire department in El Paso, Texas, which once had to correct Trump’s exaggerated claims about his crowd size.

After a devastating fire broke out at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Trump tweeted out an idiotic call for firefighters in France to use planes to douse the burning church in water. Trump’s statement was so ill-informed, and his timing so insensitive, that the French government felt the need to point out that the cathedral could have been completely destroyed if firefighters had followed Trump’s advice.

Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson — who Trump himself nominated — notoriously called Trump a “moron.”

Trump embarrasses himself and the nation just about every day. And it’s embarrassing for Republicans that they know this, yet still support Trump.
