FBI forced to point out Trump is lying about Hillary again
The FBI debunked Trump after he decided to amplify a baseless right-wing conspiracy alleging that Hillary Clinton’s emails were hacked by China.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was forced to publicly debunk Trump, who made a wildly false allegation to try to deflect from the FBI’s ongoing investigation into his campaign’s involvement with Russian operatives.
Riffing off a report from the right-wing (and often inaccurate) Daily Caller, Trump wrote, “Report just out: ‘China hacked Hillary Clinton’s private Email Server.’ Are they sure it wasn’t Russia (just kidding!)? What are the odds that the FBI and DOJ are right on top of this?”
NBC News asked the FBI to comment on Trump’s conspiracy-mongering, and they said flat-out that his allegations were inaccurate.
“The FBI has not found any evidence the [Clinton] servers were compromised,” an FBI official told NBC.
The FBI official also referred NBC to a report from the Justice Department inspector general on the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s private email server. The report said the FBI “acknowledged that the FBI investigation and its forensic analysis did not find evidence that Clinton’s email server systems were compromised.”
Trump and his allies in the conservative media, including the Daily Caller and especially Fox News, love to suggest that Clinton or her associates are criminals as a way to distract from the investigations into Trump and his associates.
But Trump and his inner circle are the ones who have kept law enforcement busy for the past 20 months.
There have been 20 criminal charges so far for the Trump gang, including five guilty pleas or convictions for figures like Trump’s campaign manager, his personal lawyer, and his national security adviser.
Trump can obsess over Hillary Clinton and her popular vote victory over him all he wants. But it won’t change the fact that the FBI has cleared Clinton of wrongdoing while Trump still faces serious legal peril.
The FBI is just doing its job — both by correcting the record on Trump’s ill-informed public statements, and by thoroughly investigating whether Trump and his cronies committed crimes.
